NZ Icon Poems

The kiwi is a beautiful bird
Or that is what I've heard
This bird is very shy
And it cannot fly

 It never plays during the day
But when people see it they say HURRAY!
The kiwi has a very long beak
Their population is growing weak

Kiwifruit is called a gooseberry
It is very hairy
It grows on a vine
But often in a short time

 The kiwifruit is brown
It is also a noun
The kiwifruit is yummy
and good for our tummy

I went there every passing day
A wonderful beach named Ligar Bay
Every grain on that marvelous beach
Was colourful sand like a golden peach

 The passion and creativity of a castle of sand
Created on a the softness of the sea's precious land
My favourite icon of fun and play
Reminds me of an awesome kiwi beach day!
