Interclass cricket

On Tuesday the 27th of March room 2 played Non stop cricket against room 13.
Room2 won paper, scissors, rock and choose to field.
We had an alright fielding session but a lot of us stood around like dead fish. Room 13 got 80 runs.
Then it was Room2’s turn to bat. It was quite bad. We didn’t look for the gaps, tried to smash every ball and got out.
In the end we got 72 runs. Over all Room13 had a better bowling and fielding set up.
So Room 13 advance to the next round and Room2 is knocked out.
Well done for everyone getting involved, hopefully we will do better endball.

Easter around the world

Easter is quickly approaching and people around the world are preparing themselves for their annual celebrations.
Christians celebrate Easter as a day to commemorate Christ's resurrection while in certain other cultures it is a day to welcome spring.
The celebrations all over the world normally include attending the mass and making Easter eggs, Easter bunnies, chocolates and buns. But there are also strange Easter traditions and weird customs followed during the celebrations in some countries.
For example in Greece Easter is known for multicolor-decorated eggs, but in Greece you will find only red color eggs. Greeks paint all their eggs only red and use these for making the Easter bread.
In Colombia, Colombians have strange dinner menu for the Easter day. Instead of chocolates and eggs, they dine on iguana, turtles and big rodents for the feast.

What family traditions do you have for Easter?
Or
Do you know how some other countries celebrate Easter?

Super similes

Eagle similes from Jordanas poetry book
This week we are looking at writing similes.
We are trying to use similes to make our writing more interesting,
and add more meaning to what we are writing.
We have been writing similes about eagles.

Zane wrote "The eagles has an eye sight like a radar detector."

Emily said "The eagles beak is as pointy and hard as nails."

Jordana wrote "As the eagle soars through the air it is as if it has jet engines concealed in it's wings"

Caleb.O said "The birds razor sharp claws clings to the rugged rock like a baby clinging to its mum."

These are fantastic similes, can you think of any that have not already been mentioned?

I before E rule

Thanks to Jordana's mum for this picture!
This week we are looking at the spelling rule,
i before e except
after c.
However, there are always exceptions to this rule.

Can you think of any other words that are an exception to this rule?

NZ Icon Poems

The kiwi is a beautiful bird
Or that is what I've heard
This bird is very shy
And it cannot fly

It never plays during the day
But when people see it they say HURRAY!
The kiwi has a very long beak
Their population is growing weak

By Emily

Kiwifruit is called a gooseberry
It is very hairy
It grows on a vine
But often in a short time

The kiwifruit is brown
It is also a noun
The kiwifruit is yummy
and good for our tummy

By Phillip

I went there every passing day
A wonderful beach named Ligar Bay
Every grain on that marvelous beach
Was colourful sand like a golden peach

The passion and creativity of a castle of sand
Created on a the softness of the sea's precious land
My favourite icon of fun and play
Reminds me of an awesome kiwi beach day!

Interviews

Over the last week we have learnt about how to write good "open" questions for when we interview our buddy. We then practised note taking when listening to someone speak. Then today we finally did the interview with our buddy.

Tell me what skills you need to be a good interviewer?
