Tamanui te Ra's Opening Ceremony

Today the Tamanui te Ra syndicate hit off their Olympic Challenge by having their own starting ceremony. Teams dressed in their uniforms they had designed and paraded down to courts, where they performed the chant they had created to show support for their team. Now teams will starting playing Handball, Basketball, Unihock and Gymnastic in their teams. They will be scored on how well they work as a team, show fair play and the Olympic values, as well as their determination to win.
Take a look at our video  and let us know what you thought about our opening ceremony?

What was the best thing you did in the holidays?

I hope you all had a great break!!!
I am looking forward to seeing you all and hearing your stories about your holiday adventures. I loved having my family here, especially my sister Marjon who traveled all the way from China. This was my favourite day, going out on the boat and having breakfast on the bbq off the back of the boat. Then rowing to the shore with Vanderley and my niece Ruby, and seeing 3 sleek looking seals.
Share with us what the best thing you did in the holidays..

Week 10 Reading Task

This week we chose what we would like to read about, either karate, moto x, hip hop, tapa cloths or athletics. After reading the text we then selected or created an activity to do that showed something we had learnt during the reading. Some groups made a hip hop dance routine, another group taught us some karate moves, Alex showed us some moves on his bmx. Then a group made a fitness routine for us to do, we saw some art work and found some information about moto x, and read a blog on karate. Some boys made a 3-d bmx track that they will show to Mr Shearer when he gets back from Mongolia. There is a blog that one group made about Karate,  so go and check that out. It was a great day and here are some of the photos...

News Report on Pompeii

To end our topic on volcanoes, the students researched a volcanic eruption. They then had to come up with a creative way to share their findings with others. Here is a fantastic new report done by Eve and Ella on the Mount Vesuvius eruption that covered the town of Pompeii in Italy. Well done girls.

What did you find out? What other feedback could you give them?

Keeping Ourselves Safe

We have been looking at ways to keep ourselves safe. Mr McKitrick, a local policeman, has been to our class twice to give us more information. Today we did some role plays to find a strategy to keep safe in a difficult situation. Here are some photos from our role plays.
Let us know if you think we chose a realistic and safe strategy?
If you were at a party and were offered alcohol you could walk away and call your parents to come get you.

Our strategy was if you were being attacked by someone asking you for money, yell for someone to help you.

If you were on the internet and someone was asking you for your number, you should go and tell your parents, and show them the message so you have evidence.

If you were being followed by someone, you could go to the nearest shop or friends house and tell them that you are being followed.

If someone asked you to get in their car, you should keep on walking and tell someone what happened. It would be good to try remember the number plate of the car.

Tech Update

In Soft Tech we made pillows. We had to plan and design what we were going to do on both sides of our pillow. Then we had to follow our plan and make a template for the words. We sewed it all together  and then stuffed the inside with Dacron.
These are the finished products.
