Winter Tournament Update
Many of our students participated in the annual Winter Tournament last Thursday and Friday.
Here are some of the sports reviews from our class...
Hi I'm Seth and I participated in the hockey at winter tournament.
I think it went really well even though we did not win. The opposition were really hard and good hockey players. We were polite, happy, enthusiastic and good sports.
We came 6th out of 7 teams. We had a lot of fun a big thanks to Mrs. Parker for organizing it.
I'm Sam, the vice captain of the Winter Tournament Football Team.
We had a really strong team this year and smashed the competition, winning
every game by at least 4 goals (including the final!) We were over the moon
after winning the tournament, it was a shame the first day was rained off, but
we managed to play 4 games in on Friday. I’d like to thank Ms. Bibby for
coaching us and helping us be able to work together as a team. Also I’d
like to thank Mr. White and the girls football team for letting us train
against you. It was the first time in 10 years Waimea had won the tournament
and it won’t be our last.
The Waimea Intermediate 8A netball team played extremely well, but sadly losing to B.I.S, just 1 point in the grade 2 finals. The winter tournament was a great experience for all of our netball team because we had a lot of fun. On the first day 2 of our 5 games got called off because it was raining but the rest of the day went on . The Waimea 8As did amazing in the tournament and I know our coach is very proud . It was Thursday morning, the first day of Winter Tournament, and the rain bucketed down and thrashed against the window of the art room, where all of the football girls were meeting with Mr White. The fields were very muddy and wet so we couldn't start our Winter Tournament in this weather. Mr Brunning had finally agreed for us to use the school fields, so we ended up playing two friendly games against the Bohally girls football team. The next day it was time for competition and we all hopped on the bus after we'd done the roll so we could go to Nelson Intermediate to play football. We meet our coach Matt at the playing fields and we had a bye for the first game, so we had time to eat, warm up and talk about the game ahead. We won our first game 2-0 in the last two minutes against Broadgreen and we went straight to the final. The final was intense against Bohally and the first half they were up 1-0, but we regained our strength and got the score up and when the final whistle blew the score was one all and we went straight to the penalty goals. It was best of five shots and it was Bohally's turn first. We only managed to get one out of the five goals and Bohally got four so we lost our five year winning streak. I think that our team worked really well together and at the end of the day I think that we had fun and we tried our best and that's what matters.

The Waimea
Intermediate girl’s winter tournament basketball team participated in the top
of the south Intermediate Winter Tournament alongside Nelson Prep, Nelson
Intermediate, Baholly, Brodgreen and Renwick. Day one, our basketball team had
four games winning them all by over 20 points, the whole team was overwhelmed
with excitement after that day and we couldn’t wait for day 2. Day 2 was also a
long day with another 4 games but we won our games by more than 20 points again
and entering the final with another strong lead and winning the trophy for
2017.

Science
We have been learning about how to follow a scientific procedure. Room 10 have been working in the Science Lab, exploding lunch bags and burning tea bags. Sounds like fun, but check out the pictures to see their learning...
Ma is white
In Te Reo, we have been learning the names of colours. Now we have mastered our numbers and colours, we are planning to make some picture books for the preschool to help them learn them aswell. Mateo loves these songs and is learning them at home too, so thank you Room 10!
Check out their latest song here...

Te Reo challenge
Here is a video of Room 10's latest challenge. They have been learning to count in Te Reo Maori. They took on the challenge to combine hand actions, counting forwards and backward in Te Reo Maori. I think they were amazing, and I was impressed at how quickly they learned this and how fast they were. Special mention to Olivia and Brooke, whom Jonty said "were the most practised, fastest and accurate!" Check it out...
Ken shares his learning

A big thank you to Trina for all your help, and everyone in Room 10 loved eating the brownies!!

Guess the job?

2. Your uniform can save your life. Watch out you may get wet.
3. You need to have your full drivers license for this job. Every day can be different, but beware, it could get dangerous.
4. Not many people like coming to see you, but they should do about every 6 months.
Guess all the jobs correctly, don't forget to write your name down to win the points.
