Water is something we take for granted, we turn on the tap and clean water appears.
Many families around the world do not have access to clean water, and sometimes have to walk long distances to collect and carry water back, every day!!
They have much bigger containers than a bucket, and often carry it on top of their heads
(like the character, Mariatu, in our class book).
It is suppose to be our right to have access to clean water, but many are not having this right being met!
We experienced what it would be like to carry water over difficult terrain.
We were competing to have the most water remaining in our buckets, check out our video to see how we did...
Imagine if we had to live a life like Mariatu, collecting water daily?
I think we all struggled a bit with the water, especially when our bucket broke!!! We should really appreciate the fact that our right of having clean water is being met...unlike many other people!!!

I agree with you Lauren, we should appreciate how lucky we are! Miss B
DeleteYesterday afternoon was really fun. We had to work together as a team at some stages and sometimes and other times everyone on your team was reling on you. Well done to Cambodia for having the most water in your bucket at the end. :) I don't think I could survive doing that every single day and walking hundreds of miles just to get water. But I suppose you kinda have to drink water so really I probably would.
ReplyDeleteOur book just keeps getting worse and worse. It is one horrific story. But I can't wait to see what happens to her in the end.

I think you are right Hayley, if we had to do something to survive, we would definitely do it!! I hope our story has a happy ending, I can not imagine what her life is like, she is a brave girl!! Miss B
DeleteI agree with you guys! If we had too I think anyone would do it or at least try! I agree about the book as well, it is so sad and she just keeps on facing more and more problems!!! She has amazing resilience!!!! I can't wait to keep reading!
DeleteDoing the water simulation was also a really cool and fun experience!! It was a great way to learn about what they have to do and what their lives are like!! I think everyone enjoyed it!! Well done to Cambodia for having the most water, you guys did really well!!! Hope we can do more activities like this soon!!!
Jordana
Even though we were the last to fill the water buckets and finish the course our bucket still had the most water left. Go Cambodia!!! Slow and steady wins the race.
