Blood diamonds

A big thank you to Reon and Findlay from Room 8, who came and shared their slide show project
on a protest song about Blood Diamonds by Kanye West. We learned that this song is based on the people who are not having their rights met!! Instead they are being beaten as they work, and being paid little money to find these diamond, just so they have enough money to by food to live.
What message or facts did you find out today??

Here is the song they show us

What other songs do you know that try share a message about peoples rights not being met??

  1. I can't believe kids just get killed if they don't find at least 3 diamonds per day. That is really really bad!!! Kids should not have that done to them. It is also very disgusting how they on get paid half a NZ dollar per day and all they are trying to do is make money for their family so the family can eat.

  2. Poor kids! It is so sad!! Their childhood has been taken away from them! They have to work so hard every day to find diamonds just so they can feed their families! They don't even get very much money, 50 cents for each diamond! And what a horrid punishment if they don't find enough diamonds! I mean death! It is so cruel! What a horrible life that would be! It needs to be stopped!

  3. It's soooo sad how kids have to live their life in unsafe areas looking for diamonds all day, everyday! It really has an effect on us because lots of us don't know much about what people have to suffer through to get only 50 cents a day...I think they said that kids from the age of 7 were working! And if nobody makes a change it will only get worse!!!!
