Introducing Mateo

Hello Room 2, I hope you had a good holiday and have had a positive start back to the term!!
It must be exciting having Mrs Andersen teaching you.

In the holidays my son decided to come early. He was born on the second Monday of the holidays at 6:40 in the morning! He weighed 6.7 pound, how heavy is that in kilos??

Here is a photo of Mateo, I will bring him in to meet you sometime later in the term.

Work hard and enjoy the term, I want to hear lots of positive things from Mrs Andersen.

Cultural shared lunch

To celebrate all our hard work we have done this term with our topic culture and identity, Room 2 decided to have a shared lunch with food that was either from our New Zealand culture or the culture the students have been studying. There was an amazing effort and thought put into the plates of food. We had amazing curry from Cambodian, interesting rum ball with mashed potato from Hungry, Italian pizza, French biscuits and breads, Tapa's from Spain, Sushi from Japan, Toffee apples from the States, German muffins and of course our famous Anzac biscuits and Pavalova, plus many more amazing creations!!

What was your favourite food? What have you enjoyed learning about this term?

Brazilian Day

Last Friday, Room 2 had an awesome Brazilian day. We started the day by learning numbers, we learnt one to ten and also several other Brazilian words. We then had a feast of the cultural Brigadeiro, which is a yummy Brazilian treat of an interesting kind of chocolate fudge. Thank you Vanderley, Miss B's husband for making that for us! Then Miss B had one of her Brazilian friends, Leonora come to our class to teach us Samba. After dancing our hips off, we ended the day with a game of Brazilian hot potato (batata quente) and the movie Rio.

What was your favourite part in the Brazilian day?

First Aid Day

Practicing recovery position - by Cameron
On Monday, Jen from Red Cross came in to do a first aid course with our class. We learnt lots of valuable skills, like how to help someone who's had an accident using the D.R.S.A.B.C method and how to save someone from choking by using back blows and chest thrusts. My favourite part was at the end when we got to bandage each others arms.
What was your favourite part? Do you have any first aid stories you'd like to share?

Last Friday Tamanui te Ra had a trip to Rabbit Island. We had a great day and we started it off by orienteering, followed by an awesome game of predator. "I loved all the running around" said Kendall.
We then headed down to the beach in the afternoon and had a huge game of touch, making sand castles and some of us had a refreshing swim.

Strike

"STRIKE original music, dynamic presentation and creative flexibility have wowed, entertained, moved, surprised and impressed audiences within New Zealand and around the world."

Sam, Megan and Ollie up on stage
Today we were wowed by an amazing performance from Strike.
Megan, Sam and Ollie were fortunate enough to be selected to go on stage to give it a go. Megan said "it was really cool going up there and trying to go fast and keep up with the other people!"
Ollie thought "it was good being up there with other drummers, because I am a drummer. It was really loud and gave me a good vibe!" Sam "could see why they enjoy it, because it was so much fun!"

What was your favourite part of their performance??

Interviewing

We have been learning about how to ask open and closed questions, and how good questions can provide us with alot of information. We have come up with 10 open questions that we asked a buddy in the class, that would give us more information about their culture.
Here we are asking our questions and writing down the key words in their answers.

I can not wait to read what they found out!!
