End Ball Vrs Room 8

The next challenge from Room 8 was to play End Ball. Three different teams took to the court. There was also another challenge made, to be the best supporting class on the side line. Room 2 took along some instruments from Brazil to help cheer our teams on. It was a fantastic afternoon challenge, alot of fun. Take a look...

Now we need to think of our next challenge.
How about a spelling bee or a maths challenge? What ideas do you have?

The most amazing voice in WIS is found in Room 2, here is our star singer Hana

Soccer clash with Room 8

On Tuesday the 17th of May we challenged Room 8 to a competitive game of soccer. Mrs Lee thought her class was better at soccer than us, so we challenged them to a game. We invited them to a game by writing it on their blog page. We were split into A and B teams and played each other on the school fields. It was fast and exciting with a lot of skill on display. Team B was ahead by 2 goals, and in the final seconds, Room 8 scored. Team A also had a fast game, but scored 1 goal to win their game.
So on the day we proved that we were better than Room 8 while having fun too!

End Ball

On Tueday the 17th of May Room 2 competed in the interclass competition of End Ball.
We played against Room 7, a team who had clearly had a lot of practise.
Our dream team started on the court, and the score rushed away on us, but we managed to score 3 goals in a row to bring the scores back to a draw of 14 all at full time.
The game went into extra time, the team that scored 2 goals ahead would be the winner.
Room 7 started with the ball, and unfortunately scored 2 quick goals.
We our now looking forward to the next interclass competition, which we think is Soccer.
Here are some shots from yesterday...

Super Simile Poems

A snake has beady eyes like a villain from a children’s book.
Its pointed nose is sharp like the beak of a chook.
A snake is as slimy as soap is when wet.
Its rattle is about as scary as they get.

A snake is as long as a rope.
Its smell is as good as a blood hound; you’d have no hope.
A snake is as scaly as a fish,
and as stealth as a hunters on a hunt for his dish.
By: Lucy

A dolphin is as playful as a child.
A dolphins eyes are as bright and shiny as jewels.
A dolphins tail is as strong as a elephant in the wild.
A dolphins teeth are as white and perfect as pearls.

A dolphins snout is like a beer bottle.
A dolphins is as streamlined as an Olympic swimmer.
A dolphin is as fast as a boat on full throttle.
A dolphin is grey like the sky on a rainy day.

My bird

Her feathers are yellow like the sun bright.
Her eyes are as dark as the moon light.
Her tail is as long as a snails trail.
Her claws are as sharp as a nail.

She sits on her perch all day, like a bat.
Like a peacock she fluffs up her feathers, which make her look fat.
Her beak is long and sharp, like rabbits teeth.
She is similar to a chicken, but she is my bird Bella.

Technology update

In Hard Tech we had to come up with a design for a clock, I chose a badminton design, with an I-pod touch holder. Then in Electronics, we had to make a circuit for the lights to be added to our clock. Once we had put the lights on, we made the clock face. Here is my finished design.

Music

Yesterday we had our first music session for the term, and it was awesome!
This term our class has been split into two groups.
One group is learning how to play the Ukelele, while the other group is learning how to make music using Garage Band on the apple computers.
Even Miss Bibby is learning how to play the Ukelele, and the first song we learnt to play was El Condor Pasa by Paul Simon. We learnt how to play three chords, A minor, C and F.
We can't wait till we have music again.

Here are some students writing about their holiday.

Go Carting
“Yes! I beat you William!”, I said after our game of minigolf. I had beaten him by one point. Finally it was time to go on the go carts.
I had not been on them before and neither had William so it was a new experience for us. We lined up at the gate nervously, ready for our go. After some waiting, we got our helmets and got into our carts. I choose number seven cart for Cristiano Ronaldo. The man started my cart and off I sped. The day was cold and I had the freezing cold wind blowing in my face. I skidded and swerved around the corners. Suddenly the joy of not crashing had come to a horrible end…I had smashed straight into the tyre barriers. I got back onto the track with the assistance of the man. Once our turn was finished I had crashed about ten times. William laughed because he did not crash once. I told him that it was beginners luck and that I had not been lucky that time around because we still had another go left.
Time passed as we waited for our next turn. I got number ten for Lionel Messi. I started with a roar and continued that speed the whole time. I had a lot less crashes that time around because I had got used to them on the first go we had. Once our turn was over we checked our times. I had done the fasted lap around the course and it was only 22.8 seconds. I was really pleased with my time and that I had beaten William that time. The tide had turned and it was my turn to laugh at William. We left Tahunanui and dropped William off at his house and then we went home.

Fishing with my Uncle
On Monday first week of the holidays my uncle and I went fishing we went and stayed in an old hut.
We unpacked our food and clothes got the rods out and went surfcasting. I caught 3 undersized snapper but I put them back in the sea.
My Uncle caught a Carpet shark and 2 parrot fish that we used for bait. The next day we went out on the boat we put down a berly bomb, which is a bag full of fish guts to attract bigger fish we caught 9 snapper that day.
We put out a net for the night and in the morning when we pulled it in we had got 2 Rig and 2 Flounders. There were lots of Swans and Canadian geese it was the best holiday ever.

"Lest we forget"

Letter from Saskia, back in Christchurch.

Hi Miss Bibby,

I am having a great time in Christchurch so far, but I still miss all of my friends (and teachers!) up in Nelson. Our class is now down to 14 people, three people have left and aren't coming back so the classroom's feeling pretty empty. The school is combining Year 7 and 8 which will raise our numbers up to about 28. Still pretty small compared to Room 2! We're also starting at 9 instead of 8:30 in the mornings. I hope you're enjoying the holidays and having a good time. Now you know my e-mail I hope to hear from you soon!
