Brain Dissection

Room 15 have been studying the brain and had the opportunity to look at a real pig’s brain. The students located the brain and were able to scoop it out with a spoon. They were able to apply their knowledge of the parts of the brain to identify all the different areas including the brain stem, cerebellum and the cerebrum.

“It was a little gross at first but really fun and interesting. My favourite part was when we finally got the eye out and could see the optic nerve. We identified the Arachnoid mater and the brain stem too.” Jade
“We got the brain out with a spoon and it had a slimy texture. It was good that we could see all of the parts of the brain we have been learning about in real life. We also got the eye out and saw all this black inky stuff come out.” James

School Kit Writing

Lots of fun writing our class poem, and colouring in our postcards!!! We will be sending this to a buddy school in Auckland. Here is a quick glance at the artwork it created, once we put the puzzle together (without cheating and looking at the numbers). We can not wait to get this finished and posted off, then we can wait for our package to arrive from Howick!!

Science Roadshow

Today we had the Science Roadshow at school, we saw two demonstrations about atoms, materials and chemical reactions, and another about forces. Both very exciting and we learned lots. After, we could go an interact with all the exhibits around the hall, the bed of nails was very popular.

Peace Run

The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run is a global relay seeking to inspire the creation of a more peaceful world. As a symbol of peace and harmony, runners carry a flaming torch, passing it from hand to hand, heart to heart.
The 2019 Southern Hemisphere Peace Run arrives in New Zealand in March and will travel from Cape Reinga to the Bluff and Stewart Island before visiting the Pacific Islands and then going on to South America.
We were lucky enough for the torch to come to Waimea Intermediate. Here are the photos of the day, and our artwork which will travel to Rome to be displayed there.

Starting to learn our new skills

We have been learning about the brain, and found out that it is just like a muscle that you can grow. With practise and the right growth mindset, we can learn anything. We are testing out this theory, by learning a new skill. Here is the start of our journey, hopefully in another week, we can show you our progress!!

Give them a word of encouragement!! Remember to be positive and name your comments!

Clap dance

In dance, we have been changing a clap dance we learned. Students have been changing it by adding in jumps, reaches, turns and adding in different levels.
Check out some of the groups so far....
