Syndicate Assembly run by Room 10

Last Thursday, Room 10 ran the fortnightly syndicate assembly
The lovely Annie and Eva were running the programme and did a fantastic job speaking. A big thank you to Maddie who introduced our Persuasive Plastic videos. Also, another thank you to Meila, Brook, Saphire and Maddie who were up the front helping with the sign language for our National Anthem.

Love Eva's shocked face, video worked!
I was very proud to share Nikita, Ella, Meg, Melia and Zoe, Sapphire and Brooks group videos on their persuasive anti plastic videos.

What a great end to the assembly, by practicing our Haka powhiri, run by Uther and Sapphire. We were all very impressed by your leadership running this Sapphire, Ka pai!!

Persuasive Videos

Our school has a focus on reducing the rubbish in our school. We found out this rubbish mainly comes from all the plastic in our lunchboxes. As we have been learning about writing persuasive techniques, we decided to make some videos to put to good use our new persuasive writing skills. We took photos around the school and then tried to persuade other students that we need to help.

See if you can find a rhetorical question, facts and statistics, group of three, emotive language or repetition?!!

Persuasive Techniques

We have been learning to write persuasive sentences, using repetition, exaggeration, facts and
statistics, rhetorical questions, groups of three and emotive language. We are trying to persuade students in our school to bring less plastic in their lunch boxes, can you guess which persuasive techniques are used in each of the following sentences?

1. The rubbish at our school is disgusting, gross and unnecessary. Jack and Phuc

2. Is all that plastic in your lunchbox necessary? Baeden and Tana

3. Imagine being a school field, imagine being a school field covered in plastic, imagine being a school field that is dying. Bayley and Finlay

4. Do you want your lunch to be a source of plastic for dying sea life?
Meila and Chiara

5. If you drop one more bit of plastic you are going to kill every fish in the sea. Savanna and Hannah

6. Stop dropping rubbish or our school will turn into a dump. Kyle

7. Up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in our schools skip, could be recycled. Harry

8. Do you want to be responsible for killing a turtle, just because you couldn’t be bothered putting away your muesli bar wrapper?
Annie and Meg

9. Do you remember when our school had no plastic on our grounds? Do you remember what it was like to walk freely without seeing any rubbish? Do you want to be able to walk without stepping on rubbish?
Zoe and Saphire

10.Our school is full of rubbish and we need to change that, it is sad to see how much there is, come on make a change.
Danni and Becs
