Sea to Source
Last week Room 10 completed their own stream monitoring of our local river. We started at the sea, by the ASB aquatic center and following the stream up to Walsh Park. We completed 4 different assessments, looking at the clarity, temperature, flow, human impact and creatures in the stream. We observed that the sea area was in very poor conditions, as was our second stop near the pools. As we walk further up, the stream got clearer and more creatures were found. Our next job is to think about what we can do to improve the water quality near the sea.
Check out the photos of our trip...

Growing mould on bread
The students were finding out if moisture makes a difference to mould growth.
Last week, they were looking at the right to a warm dry home, as they had identifying that many New Zelanders are living in unhealthy, disgusting, damp homes. There was a bit of excitement as Harry's group tried to dry their bread in the microwave, and smoke started coming out.
Finlay predicts the damp bread will produce the most mould as the temperature and moisture will make the mould grow more quickly.
Can you spot the burnt bread in the photo?
Volunteer weeding
Last Thursday, Miss Bibby took 12 keen weeders over to the preschool to volunteer weeding their front garden. Their enthusiasm and work rate was incredible and I was very proud of them weeding the whole garden in such a short time. What a positive way to be helping in our community and the First Years Preschool really appreciated it. Here a a few pics of our amazing volunteers..

Persuasive Videos
Our school has a focus on reducing the rubbish in our school. We found out this rubbish mainly comes from all the plastic in our lunchboxes. As we have been learning about writing persuasive techniques, we decided to make some videos to put to good use our new persuasive writing skills. We took photos around the school and then tried to persuade other students that we need to help.
See if you can find a rhetorical question, facts and statistics, group of three, emotive language or repetition?!!

This little chick demonstrates amazing resilience just at the start of it's early life.
What messages can we learn through this as we all learn to develop our own resilience?

Showcase
"Showquest is the new national music, dance and drama showcase for schools, organised by Rockquest Promotions, replacing Stage Challenge.
Students chose to create performances around themes that were important to them, such as war, body image and ocean pollution." Read the whole stuff link here
Hannah was a major part of our showcase, as she choreographed the main "pollution" dance, as well as participating in the dance. Ella was also a turtle dancer, and unfortunately Nikita was injured and unable to dance on the night. Savanna was the lighting and music specialist. It was an amazing performance, and I was lucky to go along and watch, here are a few snips from there dance...
