Our Special Guest!
Yesterday we were greeted by a special guest, Adie from the Tasman District Council. It was great having her here and we learnt a lot about our topic this term, Our Changing Earth. She taught us about all the different types of rocks and soils in the Tasman region. Here are a few photos from when she was here.
Endball challenge
Yesterday Room 2 had their endball tournament against Room 7. Sadly we lost, but we tried our best and I'm sure that we will win next time!!!
It was a close game ending in a draw at full time. It went into extra time where we just let the win slip away.
Great try guys!

Creating games
This week we are creating new games in groups, so that we can practice the skills we need to play End Ball better.
These photos are of the groups trailing their games with another team, and fixing the problems before we play the game as a whole class.
Next week we will be playing all the games.
We are also looking at what makes a good team and leader.
Comment below what you think makes a good team member and what makes a good leader

How was New Zealand formed?
Awesome answers from Laura and Caleb
Pangaea was once a big continent that split over millions of years. After Pangaea split there were a bunch of islands in the Pacific ocean. The Australian and Pacific plates pushed these islands together to make New Zealand. The plates buckled together and forced the land to rise up and create the Southern Alps, this happened about 5 million years ago.

Millions of years ago Pangaea was a super continent. Then some million of years later the continents started splitting apart. Then a bunch of scatted islands moved into place to form New Zealand. The Pacific and Australian plates pushed together and created the Sounthern Alps, which were made over 5 million years ago.

Inside our Earth
Completed earth |
We then used plastercine to make a replica earth, using 4 different colours.
We knew the mantle was the largest layer, so we had to design our earth to try accurately show the 4 different layers.
How accurate do you think they were?
Once we cut them open we could see the 4 layers |
What other interesting facts have you found out about our earth?

Captivating Captions
On Thursday last week, our class walked up the Richmond Hills to look down at the land below and identify the changes. We compared the land today to old photographs and recorded the changes.
We are learning how to write interesting and informative captions for our photos on the blog. Here are some photos of our trip, with some students captions below.
