Sheamus "It was tiring, especailly if you got hit while doing it, it was difficult to use your hands."
Heather "It would be hard to make it perfect, like they would want it"
Regan "Its had to substitue quantity for quality"
Mardi "It was tough doing it for 10 minutes, imagine doing this for the whole day"
Amber "It was hard to not make a sound when doing it."
Anna "They don't make alot of money for the long hours they work."
Lucy "Its scary to thinhk that your family depends on you for the money."

Water Water Water

Yesterday we did a bucket relay to experience what it would be like to have to collect and carry a bucket of water, just to have enough water for your family for one day. We realise there are alot of people around the world that have to do this to get their water
After doing this simulation, this was some responses from people in our class.
Maddy: " we realised it was tiring and your arms hurt carrying the buckets"
Anna: " We got a bit wet doing it. A bucket isn't alot for a whole days use."
Alicia: ' It was hard to balance the water, so that it didn't spill"
Sam:"They must work really hard to get something that we just get given."

Check out this slideshow about this activity, and tell us what you think it would be like!

Kirsten wins at Ecofest

I entered a wearable arts competition with some friends Shikylah and Emma. We created a black and white zip dress, which we got our idea from Smiggle pencil cases. We recycled the zips from 6 sleeping bags and sewed them together onto our dress, this took us 7 weeks in total to make. Last Saturday we took the dress to Trafalgar Square to model it at Ecofest. We won a trophy for the people's choice award in funky fashion, out of 48 other entries. We are very proud of our work and wish to enter again next year. By Kirsten.

Winter Sports Tournament

Over half the class participated in the annual winter sports tournament, held at Saxton Stadium on Thursday and Friday last week. The students have written their results to share with us.

Girls Soccer by Lucy

The girls soccer team this year were determined and ready to win! On the first day we won two and drew two games. The second day was more intense as we had to win our games to get into the final, and we did luckily. In the final we played our close rivals Nelson Intermediate. It was a tight game and once again it came down to penalty shootouts. Eve, our goalie only let in one goal and our team scored every time. We had a wonderful victory.

Boys Soccer by Regan and Logan

On Thursday the boys played 4 games, the first game was against Bohally and we lost 2-0. The second game was against Nelson Prep but again we lost 2-0. The next game was played against Buller and we won 6-0. The last game on Thursday was against Broadgreen and we won 3-1. On Friday we played against St. Josephs and we won 12-0. We then played our last game against Golden Bay and won 3-0. Overall we placed fourth and we all had a really good time.

Girls Hockey by Anna

The girls hockey team played really well winning their first game 5-0 against St Pauls, then they drew the next 2 games against Nelson and Broadgreen Intermediates. For the last game against Bohally, everybody was really tired and we lost 2-0. We ended up coming 4th out of 5 teams. It was a really fun 2 days of tournament.

Boys Hockey by Kyle

In the boys hockey we won the tournament. In our first game we won 4 nil against St Pauls and then we won our second game 6 nil against Broadgreen. The next day we played Nelson and won 6 nil. Our last game was the hardest against Bohally, which we won 2 nil.

Netball by Amber and Kalyssa

Last Thursday and Friday Kalyssa and I played netball for winter tournament. Our first game we won 35-0 and the second was 42-6 to us, and the third was 26-10, we had won again. The fourth game we also won 23-11, which was our last game on Thursday. Then on Friday we won 18-12 and our second game was 19-18. We played the final against Bohally and lost 30-17, so we came second overall.

Girl's Soccer Final

Waimea girl's soccer team, starring Alicia, Lucy, Kirsten and Anna who was absent.
Well done to the Waimea Girl's Soccer team for their amazing effort in the final game of the season. We have four star players from Room 2 in this team, Alicia, Anna, Lucy and Kirsten. They played with such determination, and I was very proud of them! Waimea drew with Nelson Intermediate 0-0, so the game went to extra time, but after no goals were score it was down to penalty shots. The first 5 players shot and it was tied at 1-1. The rest of the team had to shoot, after 10 players, Nelson finally went ahead by 1 to win the final. Casey, from Room 1 was awarded the player of the game for Waimea, for her fantastic passing. Well done girls, you had a fantastic season and ending by playing your best game! Well done to the Room 2 memebers, we are very proud of you, from Miss Bibby.

SNOW SNOW SNOW

Can you believe it actually snow today?
Room 2 noticed the small, white flakes floating down, and ran outside to get a better look.
Did it snow where you were? What did you think of the snow?

Grey clods above, feeling very cold!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

We managed to see some of the white flakes before they melted, caught here nicely on Ben's head.

Trying something new.

Today Room 2 tried using google documents to share their ideas about the positive and negative aspects of puberty. They said they really enjoyed sharing their ideas this way, as they didn't feel embarassed, they could see others ideas as they worked. Cool idea, next week we will give it a go after school. Another great way to share and build on our thinking. See how it looked...
