Room 2's Sounds of Joy

We saw the advertisment by Cabury Chocolate, Sounds of Joy. Room 2 decided we would record some sounds of joy in our classroom. We put all the sounds together using Audacity, then loaded this to slides from our Kiwi as Day last term to produce this short film.

Listen carefully and see if you can hear these sounds recorded:
The shaker - used in class to get our attention, Miss Bibby's number count down - thats she does to get us to stop, look and listen, students playing P.E in the hall, a kick of the soccer ball, friends laughing and joking around.

You can also go on the Cabury Website and share our Sound of Joy! The link is Room 2's Sounds of Joy

Life Education Bus

This week having been going to the Life Education Bus to learn more about drugs and alcohol. We have been looking at the affect and consequences they can have on our bodies and our life.

Room 2 focusing hard in the Life Education Bus.

Room 2 getting the street names for drugs.

Harold talking to Room 2.

Harold listening to what Room 2 learnt in the session.

Here are some comments students made about what they learnt:

Kerey said "In the life education bus I learnt that glue was a drug and it mucks up your brain!"

Cameron couldn't believe that there was "about 20 street names for marijuana!"

Kyle thought "that drugs and alcohol can make you do stupid things, like stand on tops of cars."

Regan was shocked "that some drug addicts started drugs at the age of 13 and that has since dropped to about 9!"

Thomas said "people can have a different personality when they drink a lot of alcohol."

Ellie learnt "that you don't have control over what you are doing when your wasted or drunk."

Lucy couldn't imagine that "some people had to take drugs just to get up in the morning or to do any little thing".

What if Poems.

This week we have been looking at What if poems?
We followed the structure of asking a strange question that the next line answers with a statement.
Here are the first few people who finished their poems today.

What if?
What if everyone was perfect?
I might get a bigger allowance.
What if sunlight made things wet?
I could go swimming in the desert.
What if cars were good for the environment?
I would drive everywhere.
What if this poem was true?
By: Regan

What if?
What if running made you unfit?
I might be fat.
What if I could be a chicken?
I could lay eggs.
What if I was a bouncy ball?
I would go to the moon.
Do you like eggs?
By: Luke

What if?
What if the rain was warm?
I might actually like the rain.
What if McDonalds made you skinny?
I could be just the right size.
What if Mars was the world?
I would live there.
What if the world never ends?
By: Amber

What if?
What if there was no winter?
I might live on a beach.
What if money made you poor?
I could be a millionaire.
What if school made you dumb?
I would quit school straight away.
What if there was no such things as poems?
By: Thomas

Welcome the World Winners!!

Well done to Emily and Lance.
Emily won the students vote for the best idea to welcome the world to the Rugby World Cup. Her idea was to have a fountain of L'n'P outside the front of the stadiums and people could take a drink as they entered to the games.
Lance won the teacher's vote, because he went the extra mile and made a power point presentation to demonstrate his idea of giving postcards to ticket holders as they entered. The postcards would have images of New Zealand places on them.
Fantastic effort to Emily and Lance, great ideas, keep up the good work!

Worth a look...the power of words!
